Appointment system

This website will help you to find out whether or not you need a visa to travel to Germany and will guide you through the application process. You will also be able to download the application forms free of charge.

Japanese citizens in possession of a valid Japanese passport do not need a visa for airport transit, tourist or business trips (for stays up to 90 days) to Germany. However, the validity of their passport has to last until at least three months after the intended date of departure from Germany. The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years.

The consular district of the EmbassyTokyo covers eastern Japan starting with the prefectures Niigata-ken, Nagano-ken as well as Shizuoka-ken. Concerning the western part starting with the prefectures Toyama-ken, Gifu-ken as well as Aichi-ken the Consulate General  Osaka-Kobe is competent for Consular Affairs.

Entry clearance requirements are dependent on the nationality of the applicant. Citizens of many countries do not need a visa to visit Germany for stays up to 90 days. Please check our country list if you are not sure whether you need a visa.

According to the Schengen Agreement, tourist and business visas issued by a mission of one of the following countries are valid for travel to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. However, you always have to apply at the Embassy/Consulate of the country of your main destination.
