All persons who wish to stay in Germany for more than 90 days are required to obtain a residence permit.


Employment in Germany

All persons who wish to seek employment in Germany are required to obtain a residence permit in the form of a visa. Where needed, a work permit will be included in the visa issued for this purpose.

Entry clearance requirements are dependent on the nationality of the applicant. Citizens of many countries do not need a visa to visit Germany for stays up to 90 days. Please check our country list if you are not sure whether you need a visa.

visa for Working Holiday

The "Working Holiday Programme" is based on bilateral agreements between the Federal Republic of Germany and other countries and aims at enabling young people to gain an insight into the culture and daily life of the Federal Republic of Germany, allowing them to travel to Germany for a stay of up to 12 months.

There are currently agreements for "Working Holiday Programmes" between Germany and Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. You will find information about how to apply for a Working Holiday visa at the following links:
